Delonghi is a very reliable brand. The last one I had (simular to this one) lasted 5+ years. I bought 2 more this winter to 'replace' my gas furnace. Gas-heat is just too expensive, so I plug these in and blew out the pilot-light :) These put out some Heat ! They are slow to warm-up, a few hours to get it going at max-heat. They are quiet and you'll forget it's even there. I'd say one per room during the coldest months. I'm in Ohio and it gets pretty darn cold here. These will keep you toasty and sleep like a baby at night.
Excellent Heater December 25, 2008 J. Rountree (North Carolina USA)
This heater is presently in our lower level family room. It does an exceptional job heating the entire room. I leave it on the lowest setting as it got down in the low 20's (which is unusual for here in Eastern NC)and it kept the room nice and toasty. I was looking for a space heater that would keep the room warm, and after reading the many reviews thought I would take a chance on it and I am not sorry. I highly recommend this heater for people WITHOUT small children as it does get a little too warm on the radiator coils for little hands to touch it.
A skeptic's review December 24, 2008 Michael C. Hosokawa (Columbia, Missouri USA)
As a lifelong skeptic, I caved and purchased one on the recommendation of a friend. I wanted to warm a large area of the basement without diverting heat away from the main floor. Set on low, this device warmed a 25x15 foot area. The first utility bills have shown a very small increase in electrical usage. Although it is quite easy to move, I purchased a second one for use wherever needed.
Great, silent heater for bedroom or small room December 23, 2008 Jhyphi (Palo Alto, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this heater about 1 month ago to deal with the cold months in my apartment and have been very impressed. My apartment only has a central heater and none in the bedroom so I was looking for something to provide the warmth that just blankets could not. The outside air temperature where I live drops to near freezing during the night time and when I turn this on 1 hour in advance, my 10'x10' room gets to a very nice temperature before I sleep. Pros: - Silent (unlike ceramic heaters) - No light (unlike dishes) - Works very well for small rooms - Pleasing to look at and doesn't take up much space - Safe to touch if you accidentally bump into it Cons: - None (If you can call it one, not as powerful as bigger models)
Great Heater, but too stinky... December 23, 2008 J. Duyck 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this heater last month to act as a supplemental heater for the living room and to heat a 12x15' bedroom at night. I will start off by saying that the comfort temp setting works great. The room heated up to a temperature that was cozy, but not too hot or too cold. A good sleeping temp. One of the biggest problems I had with the heater was the lack of a thermostat. I like to set the temperature in a room and leave and not worry that it will keep on heating past a certain temp. The comfort temp control does this, however, as a supplemental heater, I found it annoying that I wasn't able to set it to a certain temperature. My other heaters have digital thermostats (maybe I am spoiled by them?) My greatest concern was with the oil smell the heater gave off. I figured after a while it would go away, however, after a week of use it still filled the bedroom and the living room with the smell of oil, something like a diesel truck. My wife said it gave her a headache, so we returned it. I have read that this might have resulted from the unit being set on high heat, and while I had it set on the comfort temp at the highest setting, I think it isn't acceptable to smell on a normal setting.
